Bill Gates only has a high school diploma, and something tells me his lack of education wouldn’t be an issue for LaRubia . I’m not buying the hindsight attempt at qualifying the original statement and neither should you.

Did she backtrack or simply qualify a statement that she believed that people had misunderstood? Since I don’t know her true motives, I’ll never know the answer to that (neither will you), but both are legitimate interpretations.
Personally, I think that someone can be considered my equal in many ways other than income or education, but also recognize that we live in a world where income plays a large part in determining someone’s own perception of their status, as well as everyone else’s.
